忙碌的工商時代，人腦日理萬機，「肝」則是忙碌地處理營養機制並且解百毒。中醫認為，肝是活力之源，若是睡眠不足、營養不良等問題一浮現，體內就慢慢累積毒素，長期勞累，還有癌化的危機，肝炎、肝硬化、肝癌三部曲便上演；因此，身體要健康，首重「養肝」。

要怎麼保肝、養肝、護肝，成了高壓社會最重要的課題之一。 肝臟位於人體的右上腹，從身體的消化、代謝、合成及解毒的各種功能，肝臟全包了；然而，肝臟是最無聲的器官，因為沒有神經，人們感覺不到痛、感覺不到肝臟的健康警訊，常常等到併發症出現，如腹水，病患才會就醫檢查，其實為時已晚，往往檢查結果都讓病患與家屬傷心欲絕。

按西方生理學觀點，肝負責製造及排泄膽汁，幫助營養的分解及消化，同時，還要負責排解體內毒素。中醫師李深浦表示，中醫認為肝負擔疏泄全身的氣血，協助全身的運作。一旦作息不正常、飲食不均衡、內分泌失調等，肝臟的工作負擔就會增加，像是睡不好、愛生氣、眼睛痠澀、頭暈目眩、指甲與皮膚乾燥，甚至還會罹患硬皮症，這些都是因為肝臟出了問題。

肝，是生理新陳代謝最主要的器官。中醫師李深浦說，有些女性經期一來，就容易心情不佳、勞累、胸部腫脹，就是所謂的「月經症候群」，多是因肝臟、代謝出問題了；此外，過度用眼、性生活頻繁者，都會使肝臟負擔增加。因此，適量睡眠、適量運動，就是永保健康的不二法門。 不少民眾相信，要補肝，就要「以形補形」，以致吃豬肝便成了補肝的好食材；對此，李深浦醫師指出，只要貧血、氣血虛者都可以吃，但是得先看體質，太過燥、熱者就應適量吃。不過，李醫師強調，多元化飲食，蛋白質、纖維質、澱粉等都該均衡攝取，才能供應全身營養所需。
