時報出版 2016/02/17 提到番石榴，大家第一個想到的就是熱量低，是女性減肥必吃的水果。然而熱量雖低，但體質太燥或是有便祕困擾的人，吃了反而會加重病情，所以不建議民眾吃番石榴減肥。

番石榴是相當良好的維生素C來源，可以增加身體抵抗力，預防感冒的發生，同時也是種天然鎮定劑，有助對抗壓力，減少焦慮和不安的情緒。番石榴可當水果，也可以用來治病。

本草綱目記載，番石榴葉有藥效，可有效治療各種肚子疼痛、脹氣或是痢疾等疾病，且任何番石榴葉皆可，取其嫩葉直接送入口中，效果驚人，早年鄉下民眾肚子疼，都咀嚼番石榴葉止痛。 國內研究也發現，番石榴葉有整腸健胃、穩定血糖及防癌等功效。

在醫療不發達的年代，番石榴是治療急性腸胃炎很好的藥品，家中若有小孩腸胃炎時，會到果園摘番石榴葉煮茶喝，或是將番石榴切片炒乾，再拿來泡茶喝，也有同樣的效果。番石榴為什麼有止瀉功效？主要是因番石榴含有的鹼性澀味能制止胃酸發酵，具有止瀉效果。這幾年的醫療研究則發現，每天適量食用番石榴，可穩定血糖，預防糖尿病。

中醫師觀點：開業診所張家蓓 番石榴的營養價值非常高，維生素C含量是柑桔的八倍，香蕉、鳳梨、蕃茄、西瓜的三十至八十倍，可提高人體免疫力，預防上呼吸道感染以及增加血管的彈性。在中醫裡，番石榴有止瀉、止癢效果，腸胃蠕動過快的人，可多吃番石榴止瀉；有青春痘、粉刺、慢性腸炎困擾者也可多吃。

這樣吃最健康： 番石榴可以當水果，也可以做為藥材食用。建議急性腸胃炎或消化不良引起的腸胃不適，可摘取番石榴葉十至十五克，加入三百五十毫升的水，煮三十分鐘後即可飲用，能緩解腹瀉症狀；若將未成熟的番石榴洗淨，切片後曬乾備用，每次服用時，取二十克番石榴乾加水兩百毫升煮來喝，則可降血糖。
